Captain's Log, Stardate 74769.2.
As a midshipman, the "worst case scenario" that we were often taught about was the day that the Borg returned to Alliance space. It was a sobering subject any time it was discussed, as every single instructor that I had fought personally in the Borg War and lost someone that they were close to as a result of the war. I can think of no enemy more lethal.
Now, the day that I have silently dreaded is here: the Borg have returned.
The question now is whether the appearance of this cube is an isolated incident or if the Borg have more menacing intentions. I have just returned to the USS Shutsugun from a meeting with Rear Admiral Shra'Hawk, the Chief of Starfleet Security. I will be ordering USS Shutsugun, despite her current assignment to Exploration Command, to make herself ready for battle. To this end, I would like a full assessment of our combat readiness - including readiness drills, as well a systems analysis to determine what, if any, recalibrations or upgrades need to be made to ensure the ship is operating at peak efficiency.
If this does represent a renewed threat against the Galaxy Alliance, I am anxious to know what changes may be forthcoming. In this situation, only time will tell. Regardless, USS Shutsugun will be ready.
Signed,
Aron E. Amadeus,
Captain, Exploration Command
Commanding Officer, USS Shutsugun NCC-81410
