Captain's Personal Log, Stardate 75058.9.
I spent last evening meeting with newly assigned engineer Commander Teelis Tei. I found her to be a strict observer of protocol. She seems to be a most impressive officer, one whom I am proud to welcome aboard. Yet, I have been most concerned about the reasons behind her transfer and what to do with her now that she's here.
The meeting was held in hopes of understanding her future career plans and goals and finding a way for her to successfully integrate into the already complex organizational structure of USS Shutsugun. After meeting with her, I have come to understand that her presence here is to allow her to develop her skills as an engineer in the field. I now understand why she was assigned here, as I can think of no better engineer to study under than Captain Ken Adamson.
Best of all, the conversation between Commander Tei and I alleviated some private concerns regarding the command structure of USS Shutsugun. Now that I understand what she hopes to get out of her assigned here, I have elected to retain Commander Reed-Maguire as my first officer, a decision I was pleased to make as I have come to trust his counsel after working together the past six months.
