After the hearing tonight in the Chambers of the Galaxy Alliance High Council regarding Beeraxi secession, a Starfleet escort was provided for Senator Pon of Trill who was making her way back to Spacedock from the planet below. During flight, the runabout U.S.S. Alabama suffered a propulsion systems failure and began to lose attitude control. The runabout fell into the atmosphere of Earth before attitude control was regained. Then, after stabilizing the ship and heading back towards Spacedock, control was once again lost and the runabout collided with Spacedock. The runabout suffered serious damage, but Spacedock was unharmed.
U.S.S. Akagi, on the orders of Commander Richter, beamed one Starfleet ensign and Senator Pon aboard their ship for treatment. Meanwhile, Spacedock personnel tractored and docked the runabout. I have ordered a complete forensic investigation of the shuttle to see if this unfortunate incident is more than a simple accident.
