Captain's Personal Log, Stardate 74848.47: A resolution

A disembodied voice says, "Computer, begin recording."

With that command, the screen is filled with the image of Starr's face, covered in sweat, grime, and smeared patches of blood. His uniform jacket is unzipped, and his turtleneck is likewise unzipped to just below the collar bone, exposing just enough of his chest that a few strands of his chest hair are visible.

He speaks in a quiet and raspy tone, "Captain's personal log, Stardate 74848.47

"The last few weeks have been a complete whirlwind. Twice, we have tangled with the Borg, and twice we have survived."

After consulting with Vice Admiral Lathrop, the Chief of Starfleet Operations, USS Shutsugun has left the Alpha Lyncis System to rendezvous with USS Beverly Crusher, a McCoy-class hospital ship that has been dispatched to coordinate and organize the medical relief efforts in the wake of the catastrophic Borg attack on Ferasa. We will rendezvous with her at Spacedock and escort her back to the Alpha Lyncis System.

My heart aches. Correction... my heart bleeds. When I first heard the reports about what happened in Engineering, I couldn't believe it. The entire thing sealed off, beta and gamma... two entire decks of people that got... that were...!

After going head-to-head with a Borg Cube and Borg Sphere in the Alpha Lyncis System, we have sustained heavy damage. Fortunately, a fleet of 25 Starfleet vessels and USS Sutherland responded to the scene and was able to destroy the Sphere and send the Cube fleeing.

We have arrived at Bajor where we will remain in orbit for a short time before proceeding to our next assignment, which will be to scan for evidence of transwarp activity in the distant vicinity surrounding the B'hava'el system. It is our hope that, over the next few days, we will be able to ascertain the origin of the Borg Cube that appeared in this system recently, as well as determine if this was a single cube that was encountered or if transwarp activity suggests that more vessels may be in the area.

As a midshipman, the "worst case scenario" that we were often taught about was the day that the Borg returned to Alliance space. It was a sobering subject any time it was discussed, as every single instructor that I had fought personally in the Borg War and lost someone that they were close to as a result of the war. I can think of no enemy more lethal.

Now, the day that I have silently dreaded is here: the Borg have returned.

Just before our departure from Starbase 427, a new officer arrived aboard, LT Odin Metzen. He has been assigned to the operations division where he will serve under LT Maguire-Reed.

After our short stay at Qo'noS, USS Shutsugun has relocated to Spacedock. It is my intention to meet with senior command personnel regarding our next set of duty assignments.
